Deal of the Week | Apr. 24th, 2015: 12V Socket Splitter/USB Car Charger Combo $9.99 (reg. $19.99)

3-way Car Lighter Splitter and 2-port USB Car Charger for $9.99For this week’s Deal, we’re offering a “twofer.”

In other words, two items for a single low price. And these items happen to complement each other rather nicely. First, you get a 12V car socket splitter, which expands one socket to three. Suddenly, you have three places to plug in your gadgets. Second, you get a two-port USB car charger, suitable for plugging in and charging your iPhone, iPod, GPS, or what-have-you.

We usually sell these two as a bundle for $19.99, but this week (and while supplies last) they’re on sale for a low, low $9.99. That’s half price!

Deal of the Week | Apr. 17th, 2015: SyncStop Safe Charging USB Adapter for $14.99 (reg. $19.99)

SyncStop Safe Charging USB Adapter, on sale at Connecting Point for $14.99And now for something completely different…

In late 2013, a small, Portland-based independent security firm called Xipiter built the first version of SyncStop (which was originally called the “USB Condom,” until cooler heads prevailed) to scratch an itch: They wanted to minimize the risks involved with charging their own mobile devices in public areas.

When they tweeted about their invention, they were immediately flooded with emails and calls – and realized they were on to something big. The first production run sold out in a matter of days, spurring them to refine (and rename) their product.

Connecting Point is proud to be the first in our area to carry SyncStop, designed and built by another locally owned, independently operated business. And we’re inspired to offer this already-affordable gadget at a 25% discount, as this week’s Deal of the Week.

Winter is coming…back, this Sunday! Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ season premiere via Apple devices, cable-free

Apple TVWe move one giant step closer to “cutting the cord” with the introduction of HBO Now, a standalone subscription to the premium cable channel’s highly coveted selection of original series (including the white-hot ‘Game of Thrones,’ Season 5 of which premieres this Sunday, April 12th), movies, comedy specials, documentaries, special events, and talk shows. Unlike HBO Go, a similar service that required a subscription to HBO via your satellite or cable provider, this one is entirely standalone. All you need is a decent broadband Internet connection (or, in the case of iOS devices, at least a 3G cellular signal). Subscriptions are $14.99 per month, and the first month is free for new subscribers.

With your HBO Now subscription, you’ll be able to watch programming on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. And with an Apple TV, you’ll be able to watch it on your HDTV. But that’s only one reason to get an one: Apple TV gives you access to the biggest names in entertainment, in up to 1080p HD. Just plug it in and enjoy a whole world of movies, TV shows, sports, music, and more. And you can show anything that’s on your iOS device or Mac on your HDTV with AirPlay.

Dig a little deeper into Apple TV here, or stop by Connecting Point this week to pick our brains. And if you don’t already own an Apple TV, there’s never been a better time to buy. Apple just slashed its price by $30, making Apple TV the best $69 you’ll ever spend on entertainment!

Apple’s ‘Spring forward’ event to be streamed live; begins at 10am PDT this morning

Today is the day. Back on February 26th, Apple sent members of the press invitations to an event they termed ‘Spring forward.’ This Daylight Saving Time wordplay almost certainly hints the event will involve the Apple Watch. Later this morning (at 10am PDT), the lights will go down in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, and we’ll find out exactly what it’s all about. You can watch the event live online at this link.

To view the livestream, you’ll need to have version 5.1.10 or later of Apple’s Safari browser on your Mac, or Safari on iOS 6.0 or later on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. You can also stream it through your second or third generation Apple TV, provided it has software version 6.2 or later. If you don’t have any of these options available, here’s a workaround that’ll let you stream it on Windows PCs and Android devices.

Here are a few links to media outlets’ live event coverage:
