Have you had a chance to check out Apple Music yet? The service, which was rolled out June 30th, has enjoyed a mostly positive reception so far. But many people don’t realize it’s much more than a music streaming app. It’s also intended to function as a social hub, helping everyone find new music and new artists – and not necessarily the “big name” stuff.
As Apple describes on their YouTube channel:
Apple Music is a place where music is treated like the art it is, with a sense of respect and discovery. It’s also a place that accommodates and supports musicians, and provides an environment for artists and fans to engage. Stream millions of songs—and discover music you’ll love with handpicked playlists and recommendations from our experts. Listen to Beats 1, our 24/7 worldwide station broadcasting the best new music direct from Los Angeles, New York, and London that’s anchored by world-class DJ Zane Lowe. And Apple Music Connect gives you a direct line to your favorite artists; where they can share demos, remixes, lyrics, photos—really anything they wish—straight to you, the fan. We’re taking all the ways you love music, and bringing them together in one complete place; one complete thought around music.
So what do you think? If you’ve had a chance to try Apple Music, what are your initial impressions?

Today, this announcement came from Apple’s support site:
Apple has determined that a very small number of 3TB hard drives used in 27-inch iMac systems, may fail under certain conditions. These systems were sold between December 2012 and September 2013.
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected hard drives free of charge.
Apple is contacting affected iMac owners who provided a valid email address during the product registration process to let them know about this program. If you have not been contacted, but think you have a 3TB hard drive, you can enter your serial number below to see if it’s part of this program.
How to check to see if your iMac qualifies for this replacement program: Head to this page on the Apple support site. You’ll need to have the serial number of your iMac handy. It may be found on your purchase receipt. If that’s not readily available, here’s a page on Apple’s site that describes several methods of finding it.
Replacement Process: Does your iMac qualify? Apple recommends replacing affected hard drives as soon as possible. As an Apple Premium Service Provider, Connecting Point is fully capable of taking care of this replacement, regardless of where you purchased your iMac. Contact Connecting Point SERVICE as soon as possible to facilitate your repair:
Back up everything on your iMac before you bring it in to us. This part is important. You’ll need to re-install your operating system, other applications, and any documents or data after your hard drive is replaced. If you would like Connecting Point SERVICE to take care of this for you, we’re more than happy to do so – but we’ll have to charge for that part of the repair.
Other details: If you believe you have paid for a repair or replacement due to this issue, contact Apple regarding a refund. This worldwide Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iMac. The program covers affected iMac models until December 19, 2015 or three years from its original date of sale, whichever provides longer coverage for you.

To kick off this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday morning, Apple presented a video lampooning the lengths to which companies go to produce gala keynote presentations. The sketch stars SNL’s Bill Hader as the director “rehearsing” for the WWDC keynote – with disastrous results. It also features a number of celebrity cameos, shout outs to popular apps, and inside references to Silicon Valley culture.

Apple’s 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) launches with a keynote this morning. Expect big announcements about the next versions of OS X and iOS, along with developer-centric news about the Swift programming language and a Software Development Kit (SDK) for the Apple Watch. You can read some educated guesses about additional announcements over on Ars Technica.
If you’d like to experience each technological bombshell as it lands, Apple will be broadcasting the keynote live on their site – but you’ll only be able to watch it in their Safari browser, running on either a Mac or an iOS device, or on a 2nd-generation or later Apple TV.
In addition, a number of tech and business sites will be liveblogging the event:

This is a whole lot of illumination for less than three bucks.
You get an incredibly useful flexible-neck LED flashlight, perfect for peering into dark nooks and crannies and shedding light in tight spots. It even has a magnetic base, for hands-free operation. And you also get a laser pointer, perfect for beaming a bright red pinpoint for presentations, lectures, and demonstrations. (And if you have a dog or cat, brace yourself for hilarity: The laser pointer makes them mental.)
It’s small enough (just 2.65 by .75 inches) to fit in pocket, purse, glove box, tackle box, gun cabinet, backpack, bicycle bag, junk drawer – just about anywhere. And at this price, you can afford to keep one in all of those places. It comes with three LR44 batteries already installed – and even includes an extra three for good measure! Normally, these retail for $10.99, but as this week’s DOTW, they’re a steal at just $2.99.
