And now for something completely different…
In late 2013, a small, Portland-based independent security firm called Xipiter built the first version of SyncStop (which was originally called the “USB Condom,” until cooler heads prevailed) to scratch an itch: They wanted to minimize the risks involved with charging their own mobile devices in public areas.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival is five days of the highest-quality independent film, held in historic Ashland, Oregon. We move one giant step closer to “cutting the cord” with the introduction of HBO Now, a standalone subscription to the premium cable channel’s highly coveted selection of original series (including the white-hot ‘Game of Thrones,’ Season 5 of which premieres this Sunday, April 12th), movies, comedy specials, documentaries, special events, and talk shows. Unlike HBO Go, a similar service that required a subscription to HBO via your satellite or cable provider, this one is entirely standalone. All you need is a decent broadband Internet connection (or, in the case of iOS devices, at least a 3G cellular signal). Subscriptions are $14.99 per month, and the first month is free for new subscribers.
With your HBO Now subscription, you’ll be able to watch programming on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. And with an Apple TV, you’ll be able to watch it on your HDTV.
