We move one giant step closer to “cutting the cord” with the introduction of HBO Now, a standalone subscription to the premium cable channel’s highly coveted selection of original series (including the white-hot ‘Game of Thrones,’ Season 5 of which premieres this Sunday, April 12th), movies, comedy specials, documentaries, special events, and talk shows. Unlike HBO Go, a similar service that required a subscription to HBO via your satellite or cable provider, this one is entirely standalone. All you need is a decent broadband Internet connection (or, in the case of iOS devices, at least a 3G cellular signal). Subscriptions are $14.99 per month, and the first month is free for new subscribers.
With your HBO Now subscription, you’ll be able to watch programming on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. And with an Apple TV, you’ll be able to watch it on your HDTV. But that’s only one reason to get an one: Apple TV gives you access to the biggest names in entertainment, in up to 1080p HD. Just plug it in and enjoy a whole world of movies, TV shows, sports, music, and more. And you can show anything that’s on your iOS device or Mac on your HDTV with AirPlay.
